“We create the construction logic for many projects — and some beautiful details too.”

Curriculum vitae

Martin Burden joined the practice in 1989. He was appointed Associate in 1996 and Director in 2002.

Martin is responsible for a structural engineering team which concentrates on work that presents intricate engineering problems and aesthetically demanding design briefs.

He works extensively on London City and West End office and retail fit-outs, where elements such as staircases, sculpture and display units are integral to the impact of the space. Working for international retailers, such as Armani and Burberry, he has recently worked on projects in New York, Barcelona and Paris.

Martin also provides concept advice for development schemes, looking for ways to make projects technically and financially viable. This may involve removing or replacing floors, walls, façades and roofs and adding storeys or mezzanine structures.

He works closely with developers, architects, building services engineers, cost consultants and specialist contractors to produce finely engineered structures.
