17 December 2020
Ramboll’s CSR committee in India have run, and continue to run, various initiatives across India to support the underprivileged in the society through these tough times. To mark Ramboll’s 75th anniversary, the CSR committee enabled the continuation of education for children across different rural districts in India.

Due to COVID-19, many people living in poverty-stricken communities across India have been severely affected. Through various initiatives, Ramboll has continued to care for these communities who have suffered a loss of livelihood, education or even the means to pay for their basic needs like food and shelter. A number of our employees actively participated in ensuring that these CSR activities reach the beneficiaries, and we asked them to share their experience with us.

Enabling connections

Ramboll supported Udbhav Schools, which is run by a charitable trust to educate children in underprivileged communities. With the pandemic closing schools, children could not continue online education as they did not have access to the internet at home. Ramboll donated broadband connections to 200 households.

Sai Kishore Rachakonda, Ramboll’s Lead consultant – HR said “It was a humbling experience to work on this initiative which helps underprivileged children to continue with their education even during tough times like COVID-19. Special mention needs to be made on our robust CSR approval process, which ensures that genuinely disadvantaged communities receive the full benefit of the contribution made.”

Continuing education virtually

The continuation of education for children in rural communities has been particularly challenging. Ramboll’s CSR committee in India sponsored e-education kits to children in the rural districts of Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Aditee Sharma, Ramboll’s Senior Consultant – HR shares “It was overwhelming to see that we could do something so meaningful to mark Ramboll’s 75th anniversary. During this hard and unprecedented time, it is great that we, as an organisation, can support the communities in need. With our support through the distribution of digital tablets, SOS Children’s Village of India was able to get the underprivileged students back to a regular learning schedule. It feels great to be a part of an organisation that emphasises on giving back to society.”

Gayathri Shankar, Senior HR Business Partner – Global Engineering Centre said “It was heart-wrenching to see bright young minds missing out on their education with schools moving to a virtual platform in India due to the pandemic. Our initiative of distributing e education kits to these children was very useful for them. I am glad to have been part of this project that is very close to my heart. Through this initiative, Ramboll has bridged the gap making a difference to the lives of about 360 underprivileged children. I am proud to have been able to make a difference by working towards these initiatives.”

Vidya Basarkod, CSR Chairperson and Director for REC stated “I want to express my gratitude to all the employees, volunteers and stakeholders who made these CSR activities possible. With your support, I believe we have been able to make a difference, even if it has been small.”
