Born out of a desire to inspire young girls to pursue a career in engineering, Ramboll’s Professional Women’s Network (PWN) in the Middle East came up with an initiative to introduce girls to engineering.

The PWN, mainly represented by female engineers, would like to remove the perception among young girls that engineering is a “man’s job” involving hard hats, physical labour and heavy machinery. As such, the workshop was aimed at giving girls an insight into engineering and how engineers use innovative design and technology to solve construction challenges around the world.

The girls spent their day interacting with our experts from diverse fields of engineering which started with an introduction to fire and life safety followed by sustainability, building services and the different streams of engineering. The girls participated enthusiastically in the on the spot bridge and building challenge, where they had to construct either a bridge or a building using marshmallows and sticks.

The PWN hopes that workshops like ‘introducing a girl to engineering’ will inspire female students, especially before they make their subject choices, of a potential career in engineering.
