The Norwegian Rail Administration (JBV) selected Ramboll for the task to make analyses of the capacity of a future Oslo Central Station (Oslo S), having new lines from different directions into the station. This was a simulation of a future situation with, among other features, a completed Follo line (from south-west, designed by Ramboll) and totally four tracks in tunnel (only two today) from the west into Oslo S.

This was a simulation of both how ordinary traffic could be carried out, as well as in extraordinary situations. An infrastructure was built  in six different alternatives in the simulation tool OpenTrack. Among others there were entered timetables and itineraries, and there were made studies of the possibilities to run the trains in efficient and good ways. There were also studies done of the effect of extra switches and how delays would influence traffic. The results gave clear indications on which infrastructure solutions would be the most robust ones.

The Ramboll tender was based on a frame contract that they have with the Rail Administration for this type of assignments. The project team involved Ramboll experts from four countries: Denmark, Finland, Norway and Germany. Ramboll Norway had the market responsibility, and took care of principal project management and customer relations.

Even though the appointment had a fairly limited size, it is considered strategically to be important for Ramboll's future involvements and engagements within this field.
