Disruptions in railway operations due to weather, infrastructure failures, or other unexpected incidents must be anticipated by railway operators. Reaction and reporting procedures are important to consistent and reliable operations; however, communications to passengers have not necessarily been a priority in many systems.
Ramboll assisted the Finnish railway operator with developing an integrated guidebook to instruct information center operators how to react and communicate changes in scheduled rail operations to their customers. Improved and consistent information provision procedures strengthen the quality and opinion of public transport by passengers, and help to minimize frustration and misinformation caused by unexpected disruptions.
