Spread over two floors, the 16,000 sqm the state-of-the-art themed arcade features a virtual arena and a wide array of interactive video game rides located at City Walk in Dubai. Appointed as the lead design consultant for this project, Ramboll provided the multi-disciplinary engineering services as well as validated and optimised the initial design and reviewed the constructability that have enabled the client to create a vibrant environment that invites visitors to “live the game”.
Working in close collaboration with video game developers the client wanted a high-tech futuristic arcade that would become an integral part of the City Walk. The arcade consists of a ground floor that features 18 attractions powered by artificial intelligence, and mezzanine area that offers a gaming zone with real-time engines that run large-scale simulators for popular games.
The project involved significant masonry design to accommodate simulators and engines. The design input included 15 metre high masonry walls which Ramboll was able to design in house. Another important element was the optimisation of the design to ensure that the structure was made of steel. The primary structure was developed using large span trusses designed in collaboration with specialist steel contractors.
The electrical designs for this project were challenging due to each gaming experience requiring different loads as well as the different load diversities. Working closely with the games specialists as well as local knowledge of MEP regulations, the entire electrical engineering service was designed utilizing the latest available technology and the best industry practice to achieve a safe and efficient design.
An important element of this project was the Fire and Life Safety. Ramboll together with local authorities and the ride specialists have ensured that all the designs and installations have met the Fire & Life Safety requirements
