Increased water supply capacity – The east link
The city of Luleå in Sweden with about 45.000 inhabitants has a vision to build new housing and increase the local population by 10,000 before the year 2050. In order to succeed, the water supply and sewer infrastructure must be upgraded with a new main water line that can cope with higher flows of waste- and rainwater.
BUGA
Water is ubiquitous at Deutsches Eck in Koblenz where the two rivers, the Rhein and the Mosel, meet and join to one. We are surrounded by water when standing at this impressive and historic landmark.
Linnenbauer Plaza
Situated along one of Germany’s oldest pedestrian zones, the Linnenbauer Plaza in Herford required the combined efforts of local citizens, community clubs, politicians and civic staff to transform itself from a superfluous spatial remnant into a dynamic and attractive town square.
Scharnhauser Park
Stuttgart is an expanding urban centre in Southern Germany. A disused army base offered the opportunity to create a new town along the local city rail link. The main challenge was how to keep rainwater run-off at the same rate after development as before, as the site lies close to a tributary feeder to Stuttgart's main river, the Neckar, and is placed on a steep, heavy clay hill.
Lakeside Garden
Ramboll – represented by Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl in Singapore – designed ‘Lakeside Garden’ in Jurong. The aim of the design truly reflects Ramboll’s mission to ‘create sustainable societies where people and nature flourish’.
Sungei Buloh Wetland Park
The Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve is a nature reserve located in the northwest of Singapore. In 2002, it was the first wetlands reserve to be designated in Singapore and its global importance as a stop-over point for migratory birds was recognized by its international’s inclusion in the East Asian Australasian Shorebird Site Network. In 2003, it was also listed as an ASEAN Heritage Park.
Vuores Central Park
As part of the development of a new town, the Vuores Central Park seamlessly combines stormwater management with creating new recreational spaces and protection of the existing natural watershed. A new signature town square brings the park into the city heart and creates space for multi-functional community uses.
Multifunctional green areas enriching urban life
The ‘Nya Krokslätt’ area in Sweden is a former factory site to be transformed into an international role model for the sustainable way of life. Our customer, the real estate manager Husvärden Ltd, has high ambitions and an interest in cultural environments and sustainable urban planning. Our ideas for creating a sustainable outdoor environment enhanced the project to include not only technical solutions for energy efficient buildings, but to encompas a complete concept for implementing blue-green infrastructure and ecosystem services in urban areas.
The Blue-Green Garden City
Denmark’s largest current climate adaption project, the "Blue-Green Garden City" in the town of Kokkedal, north of Copenhagen, will improve local residents' everyday life; environmentally, socially and culturally.
Large rail project alleviates Norway's urban pressure
Passing through and under the city of Moss, the coming Sandbukta-Moss-Såstad rail link south of Oslo calls for complex rail engineering skills. The project involves the design of double-track rail tunnels in hilly terrain and a modern rail station in the bustling city of Moss.
Offenbach Harbour
An industrial peninsula on the River Main in Frankfurt, Germany, is being converted into a new sustainable city district. The harbour forms the new urban focus with varied access to the water and multifunctional urban space. A promenade network connects the water to the more densely build-up area on one hand and to the new local park and regional river path on the other hand.
Jurong Eco Garden
Envisioned to be the first business park set in a tropical rainforest, Jurong Eco Garden plays an important role in spear-heading Singapore's efforts to become a leader in the global thrust, towards sustainability. It spans over a 50 hectares site, with a 5 hectares green core situated at its heart. Designed to be its lungs, the green core provides a place of respite for both the human inhabitants as well as the ecology of the site.
Tianjin Cultural Park
Tianjin is one of China’s top 5 cities, not just in size and population but also in terms of business investments. Located just half an hour south-east of Beijing by high-speed train, Tianjin is also close to the sea. The high-water table needs to be maintained to prevent seawater encroaching inland and the dry, harsh climate does not preclude flooding.
Zollhallen Plaza
Zollhallen Plaza is a new counterpart for the historic customs hall which was restored in 2009. The plaza is a fine example of water sensitive urban design, as it is disconnected from the sewer system. Beautiful planters provide infiltration points, and subsurface gravel trenches with innovative in-built filter medium reduce the hydraulic overload on the sewer system. Indented plaza areas create a surface flood zone. No rain water is fed to the sewer system, instead the ground water table is recharged.
Arkadian Winnenden
Don’t be put off by the cuteness. Arkadien Winnenden is a hardcore industrial regeneration project. A diversity of high performance components makes this the world’s most sustainable neighbourhood and provides a fresh new vision for people-friendly and resource productive suburbs.
ABC Waters Programme
Driven by the vision of clean rivers and a nation which will treasure its water resources, Singapore has embarked on a national programme of transforming its utilitarian reservoirs and canals into unique, beautiful and clean destinations for all to enjoy and embrace.
Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park
Bishan Park is one of the most popular parks in the heartlands of Singapore. As part of a much-needed park upgrade and plans to improve the capacity of the Kallang channel along the edge of the park, works were carried out simultaneously to transform the utilitarian concrete channel into a naturalised river.
A31 Magherafelt bypass between Castledawson and Moneymore
The new bypass on the A31 loops around the town of Magherafelt in Northern Ireland, and is expected to ease congestion in the town by as many as 50,000 vehicles a week, reducing journey times on a major route. Ramboll contributed highway, structures and geotechnical design, environmental co-ordination (including landscape design and assessment of alternative designs) and site supervision.
Environmental Impact Assessment of near-shore wind farms
Ramboll prepares Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) of three near-shore wind farms in Danish waters for the Danish energy grid owner, Energinet.dk. The project involves preparing Environmental Impact Assessments for both the offshore wind farms as well as the onshore connection to the national grid.
Potsdamer Plaza
The iconic Potsdamer Platz bridges the scar left by the wall between East and West Berlin. A veil of shallow flow-steps create a rhythmic surface of shimmering waves, providing multiple opportunities for people to cross and interact with the water. This urban waterscape has contributed to making Potsdamer Platz one of the most visited places in Berlin.
E18 motorway extension from Koskenkylä to Kotka in Finland
Within Finland, Sweden and Norway in particular, Ramboll has been extensively involved in the establishment of the Nordic Triangle transport corridor, part of EU’s TEN-T road network, linking this region closer to the rest of Europe and beyond. As a part of the Nordic Triangle transport corridor, the E18 stretches all the way across southern Finland from Turku via the Helsinki metropolitan area to Vaalimaa at the Russian border providing a fast route to Eastern markets. Leading the consulting consortium in charge of construction design, Ramboll plays a central role in the E18 motorway extension from Koskenkylä to Kotka.
Tripla blocks in Central Pasila, Helsinki
The three-block complex forms an urban centre that includes a shopping centre, the Mall of Tripla, railway station, hotel, working, living, housing and leisure-time activities.
A605 Kings Dyke Improvement Scheme
The problem of road congestion on the A605 road, resulting from increased rail traffic through the Kings Dyke level crossing, needed an ambitious diversion scheme that involved a new road and bridge, rail works, ground works and landscaping.
Mejlflak Offshore Wind Farm
Ramboll carried out site development for a potential offshore wind farm on Mejlflak in Aarhus Bay, Denmark. Ramboll's contract with Havvind Århus Bugt A/S included geophysical/geotechnical investigations and the entire EIA process including economic assessments.
Track upgrade
The line between Aarhus and Hobro in Jutland, Denmark is being upgraded in preparation for high speed trains. This will help reduce travel time between Aalborg in the country’s north and Aarhus to one hour.
Intercity Sørli-Hamar-Lillehammer
In order to improve the connection between Sørli and Lillehammer in Norway, Ramboll is planning a new 70-kilometre double track railway line.
Climate adaptation adds value to Copenhagen suburbia
The suburban area around Gentofterenden, north of Copenhagen, has suffered from severe flooding during cloudbursts. Ramboll has assisted in improving the water management by providing a carefully considered water plan that not only caters for the increased amounts of rainwater but also enhances the quality of life of local citizens.
Golf Course Community at Education City, Qatar
Ramboll is providing Lead Engineering Consultancy, Design and Construction Supervision on this 124-hectare multi-use development in Qatar.
Jätkäsaari infrastructure and environmental planning
Having served as Helsinki's cargo port for almost 100 years, Jätkäsaari will be transformed into an attractive urban residential area by 2025. The Jätkäsaari construction project consists of various commissions, which Ramboll is planning in connection with numerous client and cooperative partners.
Development of a strategic master plan for the Emirate of Fujairah
This master plan will provide the vision and framework for economic, social and government based projects over the next 30 years. The creation of the Fujairah Strategic Masterplan Project is an initiative of the Government of Fujairah and will set a framework for the growth and development of the Emirate of Fujairah until 2040.
Holmestrand - The world’s first mountain railway station
A new fourteen kilometers double track through the city of Holmestrand will greatly improve the rail services on the Vestfold line. Rambøll is responsible for the design of seven kilometers of the line and Holmestrand Statio
E18 Grimstad - Kristiansand, European Highway
Ramboll was engaged as the main consultant on the stretch of the new E18 motorway between Grimstad and Kristiansand. The new motorway will significantly improve the Norwegian infrastructure and will improve living conditions for local communities living along the existing road.
Gullbergsvass and Gothenburg’s new RiverCity
Gullbergsvass is one of seven neighbourhoods in central Gothenburg’s port area to be transformed into the attractive new ‘RiverCity’. Ramboll performed a feasibility study for the 90 hectare district as a basis for stakeholder dialogue on the development. RiverCity promises to position Gothenburg as one of the top five cities in Europe for growth potential.
Modernisation of Swedish hospitals
The upgrading of healthcare facilities in Sörmland, Sweden includes the refurbishment and extensions of hospitals in three cities.
Environmental Impact Assessment of Ellund/Egtved pipeline
Ramboll assisted Energinet.dk in carrying out environmental investigations and an environmental impact assessment (EIA) in relation to the expansion of the capacity of the gas transmission system between Ellund and Egtved in the southern part of Jutland, Denmark.
Fehmarnsund tunnel
The Fehmarnsund Tunnel is a 1.7km long immersed tunnel connecting the German mainland to the island of Fehmarn.
Nordhavnsvej – the largest road construction project in Copenhagen in 50 years
The project for “Nordhavnsvej” is the first stage of a new road to Copenhagen’s Nordhavn (North Harbour). When fully developed, the urban area is planned for 40,000 residents and 40,000 workplaces.
