One of the worlds most efficient biomass power plant for district heating is situated in Lillestrøm near Oslo, Norway. Ramboll was consultant to Akershus Fjernvarme AS and assisted the client with the planning and procurement of the new plant.

Avedøre Power Station - one of the world's most efficient multi-fuel power plants

Located on the coast just south of Copenhagen, Unit 2 of Avedøre Power Station uses natural gas (Ngas), oil, straw and wood pellets for simultaneous generation of heat and electricity. The plant is one of the most energy efficient plants in the world, as it exploits up to 94 percent of the energy in the fuels and operates with an electrical efficiency of up to 49 percent.

Biomass conversion & lifetime extension of Avedøre Unit 1

In 2016, DONG Energy’s Avedøre Power Plant Unit 1 will deliver green heat and power to the citizens of Copenhagen. Besides a bio-conversion the project also comprises a lifetime extension which is planned for 2018. Ramboll advises on the project that constitutes a major and highly efficient biomass conversion scheme.

From coal to biomass at Studstrup Power Station

Studstrup Power Station in Aarhus is about to reach the end of its service life and will now undergo extensive renovation. Ramboll is advising the plant's owner, DONG Energy, in all project phases for this work from analysis through to commissioning.

Refurbishment of 150 kV lines at Studstrup Power Station

Studstrup Power Station in Aarhus is about to reach the end of its service life and will now undergo extensive refurbishment. Ramboll is advising the owner of the plant, DONG Energy, in all project phases for this work from analysis through to commissioning.

Meeting the demand for reliable and cost-efficient power supply in Oman

Ramboll was selected by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company SAOC to be the technical advisor to the Electricity Off-taker of the Salalah IPP Power Plant which is aimed at fulfilling the demand for a more reliable and cost-efficient power supply in Oman.

Eneco - high efficiency plant

Eneco has a vision to make the production of heat to the district heating network more sustainable to their 52,000 households and 1,100 business customers in Utrecht and Nieuwegein. Consequently, Eneco decided to implement a high-efficiency biomass plant with a total capacity of 60 MW heat at the existing combined heat and power plant Lage Weide in Utrecht.

Ørsted – New Biomass CHP – Asnæs Power Plant Unit 6

Ørsted decided that by 2023, coal will no longer be used as fuel at the company's power stations. The decision was and still is a result of the company's vision to lead the way in the transformation to a sustainable energy system.

EL-TO Zagreb power plant upgrade

Ramboll is assisting Hrvatska Elektropriveda d.d., the national electricity utility in Croatia, in upgrading the EL-TO Zagreb power plant.

Converting Lynemouth Power Station to biomass

Ramboll is providing engineering consultancy services to the conversion of Lynemouth Power Station from coal to biomass. The converted plant will export around 390MW of low carbon electricity to the national grid.

Pulverised Biomass Combustion Modelling

Switching from coal to biomass challenges the operational stability of pulverised fuel burners. Differences in fuel properties affect ignition and losses (Loss On Ignition). A combustion model for pulverised biomass has been developed, providing accurate predictive capabilities of burner operation.

Vattenfall power plant

Ramboll has completed two major Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) projects on one of Vattenfall’s power plants in Denmark.

BIO4: Towards carbon neutrality in Copenhagen

The City of Copenhagen aims to become the world’s first carbon-neutral capital by 2025. Greater Copenhagen Utility HOFOR is supporting the City in achieving this goal through several initiatives, including the conversion of Amagerværket power plant from fossil fuels to biomass.
